Among the CNPA-member organizations securing Report for America support for 2019 are CALmatters, The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, The Fresno Bee, The Mercury News, The Modesto Bee, The Sacramento Bee and The Sun-Gazette in Exeter.
Their newsrooms identified a specific reporting gap in their community and a strong plan for how to deploy one or more Report for America journalists. The key questions they answered:
- What is your reach and role in the community?
- What are the coverage gaps in your community?
- How would you use RFA corps members to fill that gap?
Report for America pays about half of an entry-level salary. The rest is split between the news organization and local donors. The reporter becomes an employee of the newsroom, serving for one to two years, starting in June 2019.
