Secret settlements about public dangers disfavored

The Assembly Judiciary Committee will hear a measure authored by its chair, Mark Stone (D-Scotts Valley), that would presumptively make public any settlement agreement related to a public danger, “that has caused or is likely to cause repeated significant or substantial bodily injury or death”. This measure is meant to help warn the public about potentially harmful hazards, and promotes public access to court records.

On Tuesday, CNPA will testify in support of AB 889, which is strongly opposed by business groups because of the additional disclosure requirements.
