Bill to ensure media access to police scanners pulled for the year

AB 1555, Assemblymember Todd Gloria’s (D-San Diego) bill to require law enforcement agencies to provide access to encrypted police communications to news media, has been pulled from legislative consideration.

The bill, which CNPA supports, was set to be heard by the Assembly Governmental Organization Committee on April 24. The bill will now be a 2-year bill, meaning that it can be taken up again next year.

Assemblymember Gloria’s choice to pull the bill gives supporters and opponents of the bill a chance to work on concerns that have been raised by law enforcement groups.
