Demian Bulwa returns to the San Francisco Chronicle as managing editor, The Chronicle reports. He will oversee the primary news, business and sports departments. Bulwa had been on the staff of Protocol and previously oversaw The Chronicle’s state and regional coverage.

Editor-in-Chief Audrey Cooper also announced that Serena Dai would be senior editor overseeing food, travel and magazines. She arrives from Eater NY.

“I could not be more excited to bring both Demian and Serena into the newsroom,” said Cooper. Demian has a rare combination of moxie and empathy, plus a great interest in narrative investigative stories. Serena will deepen our already impressive coverage of lifestyle issues and brings a deep appreciation for what such stories say about these times we are living in.”

Last week, Cooper announced that she would leave The Chronicle on June 19.
