Dee Dee Myers, senior advisor to Gov. Gavin Newsom and director of the Office of Business and Economic Development in California (GO-Biz), will appear Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the CNPA Capital Conference in Sacramento.

Myers, a former White House press secretary and global chief communications and public affairs officer for Warner Bros., will discuss the relationship between the media and businesses, consumers and government leaders in the age of misinformation.

As director of GO-Biz, Myers oversees California’s job growth, economic development and business assistance efforts. GO-Biz teams are made up of experts that span industries, geographies and business backgrounds. They offer a range of consulting services to business owners operating in the world’s fourth largest economy. Among the products offered by the agency are attraction, retention and expansion services; site selection, permit assistance, regulatory guidance, small business assistance, international trade development, and assistance with state government.

“As journalism professionals, we tend to think of disinformation principally in a social and political context. But business isn’t immune from the consequences of misinformation,” said Charles Ford Champion II, president and CEO of CNPA. “Dee Dee Myers will share insights with us from a unique point of view … as a businessperson expert in enterprise and political communication. We are very fortunate to have her on our program, and our audience of editors and publishers is quite eager to hear her views.”

Myers served as White House press secretary during President Bill Clinton’s first term and was the first woman to hold the position. After leaving the White House, she worked as a political analyst, commentator and writer as well as a contributing editor to Vanity Fair.

She is author of the New York Times best-selling book “Why Women Should Rule the World.” She also co-hosted the CNBC political talk show “Equal Time” and was a consultant on the Emmy Award-winning drama series “The West Wing.”

CapCon 2023 will take place from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento. In addition to Myers, former U.S. Attorney General William Barr, journalist and author Brian Karem, Reuters Institute research project leader Dr. Benjamin Toff, Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, Google VP of News Richard Gingras, political strategist David Axelrod and Check My Ads founder Claire Atkin will appear at the conference.

CapCon 2023 also features panel discussions on the First Amendment, reader trust in California media, successful COVID rebounds, grants for journalists and public notice.
