Allen P. McCombs, CNPA’s president in 1982, just turned 90. He still writes a column for Champion Newspapers, where (of course) he’s publisher emeritus.

The nearby metro covered all the highs and lows of his publishing life in a profile of him in 2016.

Statewide, the California Press Foundation named McCombs its Newspaper Executive of the Year in 1997 and its Lifetime Achievement honoree in 2014.

In Chino, McCombs brought in Bruce Wood as publisher in 2006 and finally found the right buyer in 2017.

Current Champion Publisher Will Fleet (2005 CNPA president) was there for McCombs’ community-wide celebration on Saturday and sent us the photos. (That’s the new boss there with the old boss.)
