Contestant Name: San Jose City College-The Times
Entry Title: Music influences students at SJCC, Real-life stories of how music can impact people
    Entry Credit: Joshua Sartain
Judge Comment: Well planned, well-designed, well executed and, well, excellent. A clever idea that perfectly expresses a mood. A truly professional-level effort.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: City College of San Francisco-The Guardsman
Entry Title: Illustration #1 - The Guardsman
    Entry Credit: Manon Cadenaule
Judge Comment: A clever election-season idea: America as a chessboard. And of course we know who the two pieces are. The multicultural spectators are watching, but not moving the pieces. Nice idea to blend the body type into the illustration.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Southwestern College-The Sun
Entry Title: Mexican Women Live in Fear of Rape and Murder
Entry Credit: Xiomara Villarreal-Gerardo, Ji Ho Kim
Judge Comment: Dark, Dia del Muertos illustration for a serious subject. Beautifully brings together culture and a sense of foreboding, nicely executed by the artist.
  • Place Name: Fourth Place
Contestant Name: San Jose City College-The Times
    Entry Title: Wash your hands
    Entry Credit: Nhu Miu Dang
Judge Comment: Clever GIF animation flashes by a bit too fast. Rare example of an illustration that is effectively animated for a purpose. The actually illustration is better seen here: https://sjcctimes.com/13626/news/in-person-instruction-suspension-extended-at-sjcc/#modal-photo
  • Place Name: Fifth Place
    Contestant Name: Las Positas College-Express
    Entry Title: Drugs and jail
    Entry Credit: Tiffany Summers-Johnson
Judge Comment: Dark, gloomy and a place where there is little hope. The desperation of the subject in the center is palpable. A tough assignment for any illustrator is handled well here.
