Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: The Fresno Bee Entry Title: Chateau Fresno Avenue Entry Credit: Craig Kohlruss Judge Comment: The texture and symmetry of this image - the vertical, horizontal and diagonal shadows, the tree detail, and the late afternoon Central Valley vibe - make it a clear winner.
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: The Desert Sun Entry Title: Desert Sun: Bighorn Sheep Entry Credit: Vickie Connor Judge Comment: The image of a Bighorn ram sparring with a barrell cactus tells the story of strong, formidable, prickly desert survivors. Great shot.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: The Press Democrat Entry Title: Lighting Up The Night Entry Credit: Kent Porter Judge Comment: This image has strong visual impact, technical quality is good, and the challenge of the capture makes it a contender.
Place Name: Fourth Place Contestant Name: The Desert Sun Entry Title: Desert Sun: Off the road Entry Credit: Jay Calderon Judge Comment: Texture of lines of cars with green grass, colors of cars, cracks in pavement make this photo. The storytelling aspect is good when combined with the cutline, but it wouldn't be clear to the viewer without it.
Place Name: Fifth Place Contestant Name: The Press-Enterprise Entry Title: Drive-thru Christmas Entry Credit: Terry Pierson Judge Comment: The color and technical aspects of this image are good, but the technique of time-lapse head/tail lights is tired if not executed perfectly.
