    Judge Comment: Beautiful, vivid writing that stirs emotions in the reader. Intertwines voices of subjects with her own personal voice splendidly. These two examples shows versatility of the author. Started reading and couldn't stop.

    Judge Comment: Have read many columns on fentanyl over the past year and this was one of the best. Equally informative and moving; nothing is missed. Wonderful writing in both examples. Every sentence carries an impact. Unique and original take in the second example. Great idea for a column.

    Judge Comment: Terrific writing. Young columnist whose skill belies her age. Two very different examples that both accomplish their purpose. Felt a range of emotions reading through both. Probably could have been a little shorter.

    Judge Comment: Biting commentary that accomplishes its purpose without hitting the reader over the head. Unique approach to two very different subjects. Nice balance of investigative reporting and opinion writing. Wonderful work.
