  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: The Fresno Bee
Entry Title: Fresno’s great shame: City must apologize for its terrible legacy of racist policies
    Entry Credit: Tad Weber
Judge Comment: Very strong, well researched, and constructive. Would have been the hands down winner had the editorial proposed policy changes, not just a demand for an apology
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Ventura County Star
Entry Title: Editorial: Simi lesson — A ‘residence’ is where folks live
    Entry Credit: Timm Herdt
Judge Comment: Well researched. Convincing and persuasive.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: The Fresno Bee
Entry Title: Devin Nunes does ‘tremendous damage’ to U.S. democracy by rejecting two states’ votes
    Entry Credit: Tad Weber
Judge Comment: Very strong and well written, although the final conclusion diminished its persuasiveness. Acknowledging that the election was fair and Biden was elected is one conclusion. But what are/should have been the consequences to Nunes if he refused to do that?
  • Place Name: Fourth Place
    Contestant Name: Ventura County Star
Entry Title: Officials must learn private thoughts are best kept to themselves
    Entry Credit: Timm Herdt
    Judge Comment: Strong and persuasive.
  • Place Name: Fifth Place

    Entry Credit: Eric Hartley
    Judge Comment: Clear and direct.
