  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Capital & Main
Entry Title: Pregnant on the Other Side of the Border
    Entry Credit: Eli Cahan
Judge Comment: The very best of a great group of entries. Solid detail puts you right on the border with this woman and others in this journey.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: The Six Fifty
Entry Title: In Squires & Corrie Slot Machines, San Mateo has forced out a treasure most residents never knew they had
    Entry Credit: Anthony Shu
Judge Comment: Who knew any of this? After reading I felt like I not only knew the man, but an awful lot about slot machines too. Great glimpse into a world everyone sees from the outside, but almost no one has experienced from within.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Santa Maria Times
Entry Title: Diamonds and Gold: The road to Everest Base Camp
    Entry Credit: Marga K. Cooley
Judge Comment: Chilling (literally) detail. I felt like I was shivering right along with them in places.
  • Competition Comment: Six or seven truly outstanding entries that were deserving of a victory. "Pregnant on the other side of the border" still stood out because of its powerful detail and fantastic writing.
