Coverage of 2022 Elections ( Dailies: 50,001 & over) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Los Angeles Times
    Entry Title: America Unsettled
    Entry Credit: Melanie Mason
Judge Comment: All three are immensely readable, sometimes infuriating (sources' views, not the reporting or writing), stories.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: The Mercury News/East Bay Times
Entry Title: Competition fierce in the U.S., but not in Bay Area
    Entry Credit: Scooty Nickerson
Judge Comment: Great story with more depth than I expected, given the topic, and interactive graphics that were impressive and fun to use.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: The Orange County Register
Entry Title: New group raises false specter of election fraud in Orange County
    Entry Credit: Brooke Staggs
Judge Comment: This story does a fine job bringing the issue of election deniers home to OC voters. The fact check is a terrific addition.
  • Competition Comment: Judging this was tough because of the strong work all around. I appreciate the incredible amount of work that went into the Chron's voter guide, but to me it did not fall into the category guideline of being "a story or series on one subject involving elections in 2022 or the lead-up and fallout."
