Coverage of Business and the Economy ( Weeklies: 4,300 & under) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: The Trinity Journal
    Entry Title: Hayfork businesses struggling
    Entry Credit: Josh Cozine
Judge Comment: This story made really good use of voices and anecdotes to illustrate just how bad the economy is in Hayfork. One minor criticism: I wished it included a fuller explanation of what happened to the cannabis industry there. Still, this was a well-reported and important story.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: The Ark
Entry Title: Strawberry girl’s small business serves up homemade dog treats
    Entry Credit: Emily Lavin
Judge Comment: This was a well-told story that I imagine inspired a lot of people who had ever aspired to start a business.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: The Ark
Entry Title: Sam’s sees early success in NFT presale
    Entry Credit: Katherine Martine
Judge Comment: I appreciated this one because it helped me to better understand the point of NFTs. It did a better job at that than many national news outlet stories I've read on the topic.
