  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Good Times
    Entry Title: Bracero Legacy
    Entry Credit: Adam Joseph
Judge Comment: This is excellence in reporting! Wonderfully descriptive, strongly and deeply written, educational. The reporter put me in the library right from the start, then showed me around and introduced me to the people. Beautiful work!
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: The Beach Reporter
Entry Title: Gino, the world's oldest dog packs a punch
    Entry Credit: Lisa Jacobs
Judge Comment: I loved this story! The reporting captured Gino's personality and life and I cared more about the dog as I read on. Such a nice touch on the story. I enjoyed every word of it.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Thousand Oaks Acorn
    Entry Title: Medallion movement
    Entry Credit: Dawn Megli
Judge Comment: Such an interesting and locally unique story. This is the type of reporting that shows a connection to community, and there aren't enough newspapers doing that these days. Nice work!
  • Competition Comment: An interesting mix of stories, solidly reported and well told. The first two stories were clearly at the top of the class, but the the third choice was a tough call.
