    Entry Title: Emotional Embrace

Judge Comment: The impact of this image is everlasting. I am moved. This image is the centerpiece to this story. As photographers, we're trained to capture these very instances in the moment as they occur. Photographer Michael Coons saw this, knew the situation, and captured (and shared) this deep emotional moment that forces feelings to surface with every viewing. It takes experience, tact, compassion, and, especially empathy in capturing these images. I must add that we, photographers, must approach this work in such a way that provides us with a sort of timeout. Congratulations.

  • Competition Comment: Congratulations to all of you for your great work! Extremely difficult to judge because of all the brilliant moments captured by so many great photographers. Once judging is over, I'll share these images with my high school students. I know they will learn from each of them.
