  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: San Francisco Chronicle
    Entry Title: Fatal Dose
    Entry Credit: The Chronicle Staff
Judge Comment: Many intimate, storytelling images that bring a story often told in statistics to light.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Los Angeles Times
    Entry Title: Sacred Work
    Entry Credit: Francine Orr
Judge Comment: The black and white was a good choice to simplify the chaotic visual environment that hospitals pose. By focusing through the eyes of one witness a much larger story is told.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: The Mercury News/East Bay Times
Entry Title: Do Tiny Homes Work?
    Entry Credit: Shae Hammond
Judge Comment: An attempted solutions story to solve an age old problem. Well lensed variety of images.
  • Competition Comment: A category which every entry had impact images. Good to see that high impact, difficult to assemble, long form storytelling is still being made.
