  • Competition Comment: Great entries. All the stories were informative, well-crafted, and thought provoking. However, "Lost at sea" stood out not only because of the nature of the story but because in addition to meeting all the elements of good reporting it highlighted how quickly joy can turn to tragedy and then walking readers through this family's journey to healing through working for change on behalf of others. The solutions focus of this story put it over the top in relation to the others candidates in this category.
