  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Calaveras Enterprise
    Entry Title: Flying high
    Entry Credit: Guy Dossi
Judge Comment: Great shot. The forward face is in focus, excellent use of the background, dynamic action on display. A perfect high school sports photo.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Calaveras Enterprise
Entry Title: Too Cool for School
    Entry Credit: Guy Dossi
Judge Comment: A well-done and playful shot. The face is in focus and the subject is center. This captures what seems to be a candid and unexpected visual. What kept this from getting first place is the lack of a competitive actual game feel...this seems more like kids having fun during practice (I could be wrong about that assumption).
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Calaveras Enterprise
    Entry Title: In the Zone
    Entry Credit: Guy Dossi
Judge Comment: Solid photo. Exciting movement and overall framing of the subject. The face is a bit out of focus.
  • Competition Comment: Some interesting entries. The running photos were the highest executed and made me feel like I was there and watching the action in person. As someone who trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I looked forward to the wrestling photos but was a bit let down by them. While they captured the excitement of a grappling match, the faces or overall imagery were a bit out of focus. They were also too close up and didn't use the wider background to frame the kids in a way that was visually appealing. The other photos had similar issues and even had people facing away from the camera, which doesn't make for the best photo (I get that happens in the heat of the moment and that you can't stage athletes in the middle of a game).
