By the extended deadline last week, the 2018 CNPA California Journalism Awards had received 2,183 entries from dailies and weeklies in the Print Contest, 394 entries in the new Digital Contest and 459 entries in
the Campus Contest.
The 3,036 entries in this year’s contest missed last year’s mark of 3,071 by 35 entries.
Print and digital entries combined this year exceeded last year’s print entries by 73 (2,577 to 2,504).
Campus entries this year were down 108 from last year (567 to 459).
Judges from publications that entered this year’s contest will work in the coming weeks to determine the top five entrants in the CJA’s various categories and divisions.
Judging assignments are being prepared as you read this.
A select group of out-of-state judges are being assigned the following categories:
- General Excellence
- Enterprise News Story or Series
- Feature Story
- In-Depth Reporting
- Investigative Reporting
- Public Service Journalism
Winners will be honored at the first-ever California Journalism Awards Gala on Saturday, May 4 at the Westin Long Beach. More details and registration for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
