Digital Contest entries were up, but print and campus entries were down in this year’s California Journalism Awards.
Overall, the contest received 2,911 entries, down 165 from last year’s 3,076 entries.
The Digital Contest, now in its second year, received 531 entries, up 78 over last year.
Print Contest entries totaled 1,998, down from last year’s 2,169.
CNPA campus members sent in 382 entries, down from 454 last year.
Judges from publications that entered this year’s contest will work in the coming weeks to determine the top five entrants in the CJA’s various categories and divisions.
Judging assignments are being prepared as you read this and will be emailed in the next couple of days.
A select group of out-of-state judges are being assigned the following categories:
- General Excellence
- Enterprise News Story or Series
- In-Depth Reporting
- Investigative Reporting
- Public Service Journalism
Winners will be honored at the California Journalism Awards Gala on Saturday, May 16 at the Long Beach Convention Center. More details and registration for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
