CNPA fixes bill that would have repealed public notices in new agriculture regulations

Last week CNPA staff was successful in convincing the Assembly Agricultural Committee to reverse a proposed provision in a bill that would have repealed the requirement that new regulations adopted by the Department of Food and Agriculture be published in a newspaper of general circulation (NGC) and instead would allow the Department to post these notices on the Department’s own website.

The measure, AB 3260, by the Assembly Agricultural Committee, was amended last week to restore the provision that requires the publication of the notice in an NGC after CNPA staff met with committee staff and explained how newspapers remain the most effective way to deliver these notices to the communities that are affected by the new regulations.
