The California State Legislature faces a budget deadline this week, and we have the latest on provisions that could affect the newspaper industry.

Tune in to hear a live report from the CNPA legislative affairs team in Sacramento. The discussion will be led by Jim Ewert, CNPA General Counsel and legislative advocate. Joining him will be Brittney Barsotti, staff attorney and legislative advocate.

Ewert advocates on behalf of CNPA before California’s legislature on issues relating to circulation, freedom of information, media access, workplace relations, advertising, workers compensation and the environment. He also is responsible for directing the governmental, legal and corporate affairs of the news association and its subsidiary corporations.

Barsotti, in conjunction with Ewert, carries out CNPA’s governmental, legal and corporate operations. She also is responsible for several member services, including the legal helpline and providing legal guidance to CNPA members.

During the legislative session, the team produces regular Legislative Bulletin reports for CNPA members.
