About the seminars:
At a CNPA “Rights and Risks” seminar, CNPA Legal Counsel Nikki Moore, pictured, provides an overview on legal basics including the California Public Records Act and the state’s open-meeting laws, libel, privacy laws, the reporter’s privilege, the use of content posted to social media, and journalists’ rights in accessing school grounds and emergency-response scenes.
Moore will also be discussing new laws on access to police records, which Gov. Jerry Brown just signed on Sept. 30. She will explain what is and is not disclosable, how the laws will work practically, and what journalists can do to ensure speedy access to these records.
Are the seminars too far for your people to attend? Consider hosting a Rights and Risks seminar at your shop.
It’s free, though you’ll need to allow staffers from other area CNPA-member companies to join in.
