A limited number of copies of the California Journalism Awards “Best of the Best” commemorative magazine are available for purchase.
It features winners in the contest for work produced in 2019. The magazine is $8 per copy, including shipping and handling.
CNPA leaders produced the magazine after deciding to cancel the annual awards gala set for Long Beach in May because of coronavirus concerns. A survey of CNPA-Member editors determined that a commemorative publication potentially would have better reception than an awards ceremony via teleconference or video capture.
“A glossy magazine cannot capture the sound and vision of a celebratory event,” said Bill Johnson, the chair of CNPA’s Contest Committee, in his message in the magazine. “The California Journalism Awards Gala in Long Beach would have assembled hundreds from across the state to acknowledge and applaud their peers on one special evening.
“Those winning reporters, editors, photographers, designers, editorial writers and production staff are covering their communities remotely and diligently at this writing. It is in the spirit of congratulation and honor that we have compiled this magazine.”
CNPA directors commissioned custom articles featuring winning journalists from investigative and enterprise reporting categories. The magazine also contains messages from several CNPA leaders regarding journalistic inspiration and publishers’ mission, and it lists winners by category and by publication.
Support for the printing and distribution of the magazine was provided by generous advertising sponsorship from CNPA Members, corporate supporters and friends of CNPA. Click to order
