The Daily Californian, a CNPA Campus Member, this Sunday launches a streaming series, “Daily Cal Live,” at 6 p.m., featuring notable newsroom alumni and experts.

“Daily Cal Live” will follow a simple hour-long format, with a brief introduction from the current editor in chief, a conversation with alumni and then a Q&A period with the audience.

“We’ve done a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure ‘Daily Cal Live’ is a success,” said Sarah Harris, the editor in chief. “It’s a model that any college paper — really any media organization — can easily follow to help boost revenue.”

The biggest task is contacting alumni and coordinating their schedules, she said, but showcasing their talent and the Daily Cal’s training history is worth the effort.

The debut installment features New York Times reporter Kurt Streeter, (1989 alum); and the NFL Network’s Mike Silver (1988) with “Shut Up and Dribble? Sports in an Age of Racial Reckoning.”

The broadcast is free, but viewers are encouraged to make contributions to help the independent Daily Cal continue training new generations of journalists.

Viewers can register to join the program at Crowdcast.
