‘Documenting COVID-19’ Project merits 2020 FAC honors
The Brown Institute’s “Documenting COVID-19,” a large-scale nationwide collaboration, will receive the First Amendment Coalition’s 2020 Free Speech & Open Government Award, FAC reports.
The undertaking gathered 220 document sets across 44 states in collaboration with more than 30 newsrooms and resulted in more than 40 investigative articles, the FAC article said. The resulting database is available to journalists and the general public.
“Together, this team did far more than any single publication or organization could have accomplished alone, and as a result the public has a better understanding of how their governments responded to the public-health crisis,” FAC Executive Director David Snyder said.
The award includes a $1,000 prize.
