Eugene “Gene” Harbrecht, a mainstay editor for decades at The Orange County Register and Southern California News Group, died following a traffic collision near his home in Santa Ana. He was 67.
Harbrecht served with The Register since 1984 and recently had been SCNG’s national and international wire editor.
“He was a journalistic rock who helped us sort through all that was going on in the world to make sense of what was most important to readers,” said Todd Harmonson, The Register’s senior editor.
