It’s time to choose your best work to enter in CNPA’s 2017 California Journalism Awards (formerly the Better Newspapers Contest).

Entry packages will be in the mail this week. For those eager to get going, the entry packages are now available online:

Deadline for entries is Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. The contest period is Jan. 1, 2017, to Dec. 31, 2017.

If you receive the entry packet but do not handle the entries for the journalism awards, please give the entry materials to the person responsible as soon as possible so your newspaper is represented in the competition.

We’ve added several new categories to the main contest this year, including Public Service Journalism, In-Depth Reporting, Land-Use Reporting and Online Breaking News Coverage.

A major rule change this year allows a single entry in multiple categories.

We also have a new contest entry system from BetterBNC that will make it easier for you to upload and manage your entries. The system is currently under construction. Detailed entry instructions will be posted online later this month.

General Excellence plaques will be presented at the California Journalism Awards luncheon on Saturday, April 14, 2018, during CNPA’s annual Press Summit at The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa.
