Gregg McConnell, 64

Gregg McConnell, 64

Gregg McConnell, former publisher of several California newspapers from the 1980s through the 2000s, died Jan. 12, 2021, in Arizona, the Tri-City Herald in Washington reported. He was 64 and had cancer.

McConnell’s 42-year career included serving as publisher of then-Scripps League papers in Taft and Petaluma in his 20s. He later was publisher of Media News Group’s Lake County Record-Bee and its related operations and then group publisher for The Reporter in Vacaville and the Daily Democrat in Woodland.

McConnell then served as group publisher of the Chico Enterprise-Record in Chico, Oroville Mercury-Register and Paradise Post. He then joined McClatchy and served as publisher of the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Wash. McConnell retired in 2017.
