Gruner Prizes presented in Fresno

Gruner AwardJournalists from The Fresno Bee, The Bakersfield Californian and the Mariposa Gazette received George F. Gruner Prizes for Meritorious Public Service in journalism during a ceremony March 1 in Fresno, Fresno State News reports.

Winners in the additional categories of News, Features, Columns, Editorials, Sports Story, Sports Photo and News Photo included staff from the above and the Dinuba Sentinel, Exeter Sun-Gazette, Fresno Business Journal, Hanford Sentinel, Los Banos Enterprise, Madera Tribune, Merced Sun-Star, The Modesto Bee, Sierra Star and Vida en el Valle.

The Gruner awards are sponsored by Fresno State’s Department of Media, Communications and Journalism, which coordinates the competition, and The Fresno Bee. The Gruner awards are named for the former Fresno Bee executive editor who retired in 1988. Winners are selected by professional journalists from other states.
