Beth Potter, the USA regional manager for the Journalism Trust initiative, will cap off the CNPA Capital Conference next week with a presentation on rebuilding trust and then capitalizing on standards-based journalism.

The Journalism Trust Initiative is an effort by Reporters Without Borders to certify professional newsroom values so that results vault to the top of online searches.

Potter, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder in media research, is a veteran journalist who has worked both domestically and internationally. Her presentation, lauded by press associations across the U.S., will offer a practicum for the conference’s main theme, “Rebuilding Trust in an Age of Disinformation.”

“Beth offers a perfect summation for CapCon,” said CNPA President & CEO Charles Ford Champion II. “The program she represents provides a way for local news leaders to stand out by offering independent, verified content to their readers. And that is absolutely central to our discussions this week. We are fortunate to have her.”

In addition to Potter, speakers include former U.S. Attorney General William Barr, journalist and author Brian Karem, Reuters Institute research project leader Dr. Benjamin Toff, Google VP of News Richard Gingras, political strategist David Axelrod, and Check My Ads founder Claire Atkin. CapCon 2023 also features panel discussions on the First Amendment, reader trust in California media, grants for journalists and public notice.

CapCon 2023 will take place from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento. That’s next week. If you have not yet, please secure your registration today.
