In Memoriam: Marion Lewenstein, 93

Marion Lewenstein, journalism professor emerita and CNPA’s University Journalism Educator of the Year in 1981, died March 6, 2021, of complications of heart and circulatory disease at home in Palo Alto, Stanford News reports. She was 93.

“Marion Lewenstein was a pathbreaker,” said Jay Hamilton, chair of the Department of Communication and director of the Stanford Journalism Program. “She was an early tech journalist in Silicon Valley, and an early researcher of how people read news online. She excelled in the classroom and was integral to the establishment of the Rowland and Pat Rebele Journalism Internship Program, which has allowed hundreds of Stanford students across more than three decades to pursue reporting internships.”
