In Memoriam: Charles Freeman, 81

In Memoriam: Charles Freeman, 81

Charles “Chuck” Freeman, former publisher of Century Group Media’s Record Gazette in Banning, died March 31, 2021, the newspaper reports. He was 81 and had a lifelong battle with diabetes.

Freeman joined the newspaper in 1971 and retired as publisher in 1996.

“I don’t remember at what point he became co-publisher, and I don’t remember everything he did” at the paper, said his daughter, Gail DeForge, but “he lived and breathed the newspaper. He went on calls as a reporter just for the excitement. He loved being in the know.”
