Cynthia Schur, a former CNPA president, died July 12, 2022, after a short battle with brain cancer, the Santa Maria Times reports. She was 65.

Schur led the Santa Maria Times and its affiliated Central Coast properties from 2003 to 2019. She served as a CNPA director from 2005 to 2019 and was president in 2012-13.

“She chose her words really carefully and didn’t kick in on every issue, but when she spoke, people really listened,” Tom Newton, CNPA‘s former executive director, said of Schur’s CNPA service.

“They had a lot of respect for the things she had to say and the positions she took. She was really a steady hand on the leadership of CNPA and had a great influence on the board overall.”
