John Adams, a former senior deputy online editor at the Los Angeles Times, and known as a champion of digital storytelling, died Jan. 13, 2022, in Illinois, the Arizona Republic reported. He was 46.

Adams most recently was senior director of digital storytelling and strategy at The Republic.

“It drove John nuts to see someone read a story and then disappear,” Republic Executive Editor Greg Burton said in The Republic’s remembrance. “He wanted to convert occasional readers. In journalism, you do that with consistency, with humor and humanity, with journalism that unites people with shared interests and a common goal.”

During his time in Los Angeles, Adams won a Pulitzer Prize for his involvement in The Times’ coverage of the 2015 mass shooting in San Bernardino.
