In Memoriam: Mike Hazelwood, 45

Hazelwood, with the company from 2000 until leaving for a high school teaching job, served as managing editor of The Advance-Register and later was named senior editor of local news for both papers.

“He was the first to pull me aside, sit me down, and tell me that what I wrote sucked,” said Eric Woomer, the current news editor. “Then I rewrote until he stood up and gave me a thumbs up from across the room. You don’t forget an editor like Mike. He was a teacher to us all.”
