Internship grants: Start scouting
Newspaper editors and publishers with an interest in grant-funded interns in 2019: The application deadline is Nov. 16 for the California Press Foundation’s internship grants program.
The program will provide up to four $2,500 grants to college students who obtain newsroom internships at California newspapers in spring or summer 2019. Also, Cal Press directors have earmarked one $2,500 grant for a most-worthy advertising or marketing intern.
Cal Press provides grants to select students who demonstrate an exceptional interest in pursuing careers in the newspaper business in California. The students are required to pursue and secure the internship on their own. Internships, which can occur in spring or summer, must be full time and last at least six weeks.
Now is the time to contact a college adviser. Ask about top students. Inquire about college credit for internships. Find a promising student from your area and endorse their application. Need introductions? Please contact us. Meantime, get application materials (pdf).
Cal Press interns in 2018 served at the The Bakersfield Californian, Los Angeles Daily News, The Sacramento Bee and Tahoe Daily Tribune.
