Among the honorees Nov. 9 at an alumni Hall of Fame induction reception at CSU Fresno were journalism professor emeritus James Tucker, a CNPA-honored ; and Joe Rosato Sr., one of the “Fresno Bee Four” who went to jail for 15 days rather than reveal their sources in 1976.
Tucker, on the journalism department staff from 1968 to 2007 and department chair for 12 years, humbly described his role in helping to integrate a white and male department (and university) while crediting other professors — Bernie Shepard (1968 CNPA honoree), Paul Sheehan, Roger Tatarian (1978 CNPA honoree), Dayle Molen — with helping to make Fresno State’s one of the best small journalism departments in the country.
Also during the event, several former students were named as hall of fame fellows, The Collegian reports. These alumni credited many of the Hall of Fame inductees with forming them into solid professionals in journalism, advertising, broadcasting and public relations. Thirty student recipients of scholarships also were recognized.
