Jim Boren

Jim Boren, former vice president and executive editor at The Fresno Bee, will be executive director of the new Institute for Media and Public Trust at CSU Fresno, The Bee reports.

The university will provide initial funding for the institute, and additional fundraising is underway. “Ultimately, the Institute will be self-sustaining via grants and donations from individuals and organizations,” The Bee’s article said.

University President Joseph Castro said among the institute’s programs will be seminars to discuss the First Amendment on college campuses in the age of social media, and how it relates to academic freedom, tenure and employment law.

Boren, who taught advanced reporting in the university’s Department of Media, Communications and Journalism in the spring, will continue in that teaching role. He is a CSU Fresno alum whose entire 48-year career was at The Bee.
