Joseph Barletta, a former top executive in several national news companies, died Oct. 28, 2019, in Napa, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He was 83.
Barletta was a former president of the San Francisco Newspaper Agency, which managed the joint-operating agreement between the San Francisco Chronicle and then-Examiner; president of Freedom Communications, president of Thomson Newspapers; VP/Labor Relations for Tribune Co.; and a partner with Seyfarth Shaw, the employment-law firm.
Most recently, Barletta was a director of Paladin Multimedia.
“I always admired Joe’s unique combination of strengths: bright, practical, affable, firm in his convictions but with a gentleman’s eloquence, all with a warmth and sense of humor that made him thoroughly enjoyable to work with and be in his company,” said CNPA President-elect Chuck Champion, president and publisher, San Marino Tribune, and Paladin’s managing partner.
