To protect and serve the common interests of its newsmedia members, to help members inform and thereby strengthen their communities, and to foster the highest ideals, ethics and traditions of journalism, a free press and the news profession.
This budget allocation would require the California Travel and Tourism Commission to spend $45 million on strategic media to jump start the recovery of the travel and tourism industry in the State.
CNPA vigorously supports this initiative, a one-time appropriation to fund an in-state and western drive market campaign which anticipates substantial advertising revenue for newspapers in the state. The campaign will launch when the California Department of Public Health declares it is appropriate to resume travel and could deliver $10.3 billion in business revenue and $865 million in additional taxes. The campaign is designed to help reverse the impact of the pandemic on the industry, which creates $145 billion in annual business and generates $12.5 billion in state and local taxes.
This is an important budget allocation, so please contact your legislators and urge them to support it.
