Local, digital-only news publishing spotlighted at Summit

Friday morning delegates at the CNPA Summit can gain insight into the challenges behind digital-news publishing.

Confirmed “Doing Local on the Web” panelists will include Norberto Santana Jr. (Voice of OC) and Christina Shih (Voice of San Diego). Santana is an award-winning investigative reporter with 20 years of experience at major daily newspapers.

Before founding Voice of OC in 2009, Santana was a lead investigative reporter for the Orange County Register and spent a decade covering local governments across Southern California. His work has included exposés on Orange County public safety spending, deportation policies and misuse of funds at the San Diego Red Cross.

Shih is the director of Outreach and Special Projects at Voice of San Diego. She oversees VOSD’s membership strategy and engages residents in important discussions about our region through programming and events. Previously, she cultivated major donors and planned member events for the Museum of Photographic Arts.

Also that Friday will be sessions on digital-agency services; Facebook and newspapers; ad-agency relations; and the legalization of cannabis. Leon Panetta, former U.S. secretary of defense, will keynote the Friday luncheon.

The Summit is set for May 17-20 in Santa Monica. The early-bird registration deadline is Monday, April 17.
