The Martinez News-Gazette will go out of print at year-end, The Mercury News reports.

It was founded in 1858 and claimed to be Contra Costa County’s oldest newspaper.

“This was a thriving daily paper for a long, long time,” Editor Rick Jones said. “A lot of peoples’ lives have been touched by the Gazette.”

Owner Gibson Publishing closed its Rio Vista News-Herald in September.
