CNPA Members have elected, via email ballot, new officers and directors for 2024-25.
Julie Makinen, The San Francisco Standard, will serve as chairperson. Steve Falk, The Press Democrat/Sonoma Media Investments, is vice president, while Bill Nagel, San Francisco Chronicle, is secretary-treasurer. Simon Grieve, Grunion Gazette, will continue as immediate past-chairperson.
Makinen succeeds Emily Charrier as chairperson. Charrier recently resigned as publisher of the Petaluma Argus-Courier and as editor and publisher of the Sonoma Index-Tribune to become Communications & Outreach coordinator at the Napa Valley Transit Authority. She had been a CNPA director since 2018.
Secretary-Treasurer Norb Garrett fulfilled his 2023-2024 term and left the board after selling his Picket Fence Media-owned newspapers to Times Media Group in August 2023.
The membership also elected these directors to three-year terms:
- Paulette Brown-Hinds, Black Voice News, Riverside
- Arturo Carmona, La Opinión, Los Angeles
- Jeff Glasser, Los Angeles Times
- Michael Yamashita, Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco
