New editors at Examiner, SF Weekly

Unnamed (3)Carly Schwartz in May becomes editor in chief at Clint Reilly Communications’ San Francisco Examiner, SF Weekly and The Nob Hill Gazette, The Examiner reports.

Schwartz had been editor in chief of Google Insider and previously was an editor with Huffington Post.

Also joining the masthead will be Allen Matthews, a former deputy editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, as director of editorial operations; and Al Saracevic, a former Chronicle business editor and sports editor, as assistant managing editor for news and sports.

“Allen Matthews and Al Saracevic bring a treasure trove of experience to The Examiner and a granular understanding of what it takes to successfully operate a consequential local news organization,” owner Clint Reilly said. “Their skill sets are extremely complementary, and they will be valuable lieutenants for Carly as we begin the hard work of rebuilding the brand and bolstering the editorial operation.”

Reilly’s company acquired The Examiner and SF Weekly in January.
