If you took your argument about the effects of a newsprint tariff on your news-gathering and your bottom line to Washington, D.C., what would it look like?
Jim Ewert, CNPA’s general counsel and legislative advocate, is doing just that when he joins the News Media Alliance’s Fly-In lobby day next Thursday, June 14 at the U.S. Capitol. He will be meeting with key members of California’s congressional delegation and plans to use the editorials to persuade legislators to support the PRINT legislation introduced in the Senate and a similar bill introduced in the House today as well as the overall effort to repeal the harmful tariffs.
The House and Senate versions of the PRINT Act, or “Protecting Rational Incentives in Newsprint Trade Act of 2018,” would suspend new tariffs currently being imposed on imported newsprint from Canada. It also would require the Department of Commerce to review the economic health of the printing and publishing industries.
