Register now for Feb. 21 Governmental Affairs Day

Make plans to attend CNPA’s 21st Annual Governmental Affairs Day on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the Sacramento Convention Center.

Don’t miss the chance to meet and interact with California’s legislators and legislative leaders.

Senate President pro Tem-elect Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood), Assembly Republican Leader Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) and Senate Republican Leader Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) have been invited to be our guests throughout the day, and all legislators and constitutional officers are invited to an evening reception at the Capitol Building.

In the era of the Me Too and We Said Enough movements, CNPA staff expects this legislative session will provide several opportunities to reform the Legislative Open Records Act and improve access to records of police misconduct and the oversight of local PACE programs.

Staff also anticipates there will be continued threats to newspapers’ business operations. Your participation at Governmental Affairs Day is essential and demonstrates to legislators and other public officials that newspapers’ influence on the
development of public policy in California is alive and well. Please invite your key staff to accompany you.

The day’s events, sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, California Black Media and First Amendment Coalition, start at 10 a.m. and end at 7:30 p.m.

The day starts with presentations from legislative leadership — and questions from CNPA members in the audience.

At the morning event and at your lawmakers’ office, your Governmental Affairs Day attendance is crucial to provide a solid, visible representation of California’s publishers, news editors and opinion editors.

The program is shaping up by the hour, but you can make your plans immediately.
