Legal Counsel Nikki Moore will present CNPA’s “Rights & Risks” seminar from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9. It’s hosted by Champion Newspapers in Chino.

CNPA members from nearby shops are invited to join in. Just RSVP with Nikki Moore.

At a CNPA “Rights & Risks” seminar, Moore, pictured, covers issues including basics on the California Public Records Act and the state’s open-meeting laws.

The discussion touches on libel, the use of content posted to social media, and journalists’ rights in accessing school grounds and emergency-response scenes.

“Nikki was well prepared and up to date on all the major libel rulings and cases from across the country,” said Editor Patrick Chu, whose San Francisco Business Times hosted a previous workshop. “In addition, she was well versed in the specific nuances of California libel law. I highly recommend Ms. Moore to any publication needing a primer on libel law and other legal matters. I’m very grateful that this free service exists and is provided by CNPA.”

Also, Moore is a presenter at these upcoming events:

  • Journalism Education Association of Northern California’s NorCal Media Day, Saturday, Oct. 7, Palo Alto High School
  • Journalism Association of Community Colleges’ NorCal Conference, Saturday, Oct. 21, De Anza College, Cupertino
