John Tyree is a maverick high school football coach with a proven win record: 227 career victories and section titles. Last August he was energetically coaching a turnaround for the Broncos of Banning. Tyree is 82 and might just be the oldest high school football coach in the state. He also races Porsches.
CNPA Freelance Member John Murphy (pictured) won a First Place award for Profile Story in the 2021 California Journalism Awards for his well-told look at Tyree and those he has influenced and mentored.
In the second of our “How I Got the Story” Freelance Sessions, Murphy will share how he did it.
