Weeklys news group adds Los Gatos flag

San Jose-based Weeklys launched the Los Gatan on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Its first edition was a 36-pager distributed to homes and businesses. Los Gatos is adjacent to Scotts Valley, where Weeklys publishes the Press Banner.

The privately held group also includes Good Times (Santa Cruz), Metro Silicon Valley (San Jose), East Bay Express (Oakland), Pacific Sun and Bohemian (Marin), Gilroy Dispatch, Morgan Hill Times, Hollister Free Lance, Pajaronian (Watsonville), King City Rustler and Salinas Valley Tribune.

“I know print was supposed to disappear, but in recent years, cognitive psychologists and neuroscientists have released studies explaining how the human brain absorbs written information,” Executive Editor and CEO Dan Pulcrano said in a news release, “and print media appears to have some advantages over digital media in terms of comprehension and recall. That’s good news for readers, for advertisers and for the civic life of communities.”
